Over the past seven years, we’ve performed to packed houses, staging over 300 shows that have touched hearts, sparked conversations, and left audiences with something to take home. Motherf**ker with the Hat is a dark comedy that revolves around Jackie, a recovering addict recently out of prison, and his girlfriend Veronica, who is struggling with her own addictions. Jackie is thrilled to have landed a legitimate job and is determined to rebuild his life. However, his newfound optimism is shattered when he discovers an unfamiliar hat in their apartment, leading him to suspect Veronica of infidelity.
As Jackie seeks advice and solace from his AA sponsor Ralph D., his cousin Julio, and others in his orbit, the complexities of loyalty, love, betrayal, and addiction unravel. Ralph D., who outwardly seems like a pillar of support, harbors his own secrets, complicating Jackie’s quest for truth and redemption.
Set in the gritty world of New York City, the play is a sharp, raw exploration of flawed relationships, personal accountability, and the messy, often humorous intersections of love and addiction. With biting dialogue and deeply human characters, Guirgis crafts a poignant and entertaining story that examines the challenge of change in a chaotic world.

About the founder
Aakash Prabhakar is an internationally recognized actor, filmmaker, and theatre director from India, with a body of work that spans over a decade across stage and screen. He is the founder of Here And Now, a production company dedicated to impactful storytelling through independent films and theatre.
A graduate of The Drama School Mumbai and the New York Film Academy, Aakash’s training merges Indian theatrical rigour with global cinematic technique. In 2019, he made his feature film debut with Freddie’s Piano, which he directed and starred in. The film premiered at the New York Indian Film Festival 2021 and was selected at numerous international festivals, earning accolades such as:
